Flying Through The Sky On The USS Blueberry Pie!I've had this wee character in my mind for a while now. His name is Spaceman Jezza, and he travels through the galaxy in his spaceship "Blueberry Pie". I'm looking forward to working more on this little chap, there's a backstory already written, and i'm thinking up all sorts of exciting adventures for him to have! Why is he in a normal suit with just a space helmet...that will be revealed in future blog posts! UPDATE - Spaceman Jezza now has his own merchandise! Click below for his T-shirt on Zazzle! Hope yer having a creative day!
See ye tomorra, Davy Here comes the bride, screeching down the aisle! It's a wee fun sketch of Frankenstein's bride, along with two little monsters to hold up her train. Hope she gives you a wee smile.
Have a creative day and i'll see ye tomorra! Davy Unwanted Correspondence!Below is info from Amazon's own online form, and email to me, detailing the information they will give to 'third party sellers' when you try to defend your copyright (click image to enlarge). Now it might sound as if i'm being sensationalist about this, but it's known that most of the copyright infringements on Amazon are run by criminal gangs, rather than some fuzzy little grandma from her sewing room (see link below from the Interpol IP Conference). Here's what actually happens - 1. I see my designs being sold illegally on the Amazon marketplace 2. I fill in an online form to let Amazon know that these are my designs and i request them to be taken down from the seller. 3. Amazon gives my email address to the 'third party seller'. (yup, these criminal gangs!) Yes, I know it sounds crazy. But does Amazon give me the address etc of the criminal - hell no! Love to know if anyone else has had experience of this - either contact me here, or leave a comment.. Here's a link to a speech by David M. Luna (Senior Director for National Security and Diplomacy Anti-Crime Programs, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs) at an Interpol IP Crime Conference in September which shows how seriously the police take these criminal gangs and terrorist organisations operating online, and how it damages not just artists, but the country's economy too. http://m.state.gov/md262085.htm I've asked Amazon why they need to give this information. I'll pop up their response when, if, I get one.
Speak soon, Davy A Tribute To Leonard Cohen.I'm enjoying posting about the progress of the Duke Of Wellington piece, so here's an up to date report on how i'm getting along with the "Tea And Oranges" painting too. I've just completed the wee grisaille as you can see. This is the third stage so far for this work. I had originally sketched each little component part of the composition as a wee 'quiz' back in July. When this sketch was finished I copied it as a rough outline onto canvas, and added in a tiny bit of shading with some burnt umber acrylic mix. You'll notice that I tend to use a ground canvas - meaning I don't paint against white. It helps for when i'm trying to get the tonal values correct. I'm looking forward to posting the next stage, where the piece should be a lot more colourful.
If you're wondering what the title of the piece means - it's a tribute to Leonard Cohen's song 'Suzanne'. "She feeds you tea and oranges, that come all the way from China" Have a creative day and i'll see ye tomorra! Davy Sketching, Painting, And A Load Of Brain Trickery! In my previous post in this 'Diary Of A Painting' series I told you that I was having difficulty in measuring the dashing Duke and his horse, and showed how I created a digital grid in the same dimensions as the physical canvas that I was using, to try and help me with the proportions. Here's the stage where he's at now. I've done a grisaille, or dead layer, which basically just means trying to sort out some tonal values. It's usually done using a grey tonal value scale. This layer is basically to set up the piece for the further layers to come. You can be as detailed as you like when doing a grisaille, but for this piece i'm just doing the basics. For me, as long as I kinda know where i'm going with it, i'm fine to leave it as rough as this. I should point out that even getting to this stage and having a grid, my brain was still trying to trick my eyes into seeing what i thought should be there rather than what actually was. A way to get round this is to draw/paint the composition upside down. Another trick that can help here too, is also to cover up areas on the canvas and just focus on the area of the grid that you are interested in, and each piece should still match up at the end. I then turned him back up the right way (to save him from getting a headache and shaded in a little detail in umber. Now that I've done the grisaille, I have to wait for that layer to dry before commencing the next. The great thing is that it gives me a chance to return to it with fresh eyes.
I can see him coming along and look forward to sharing some pics from his next stage. Thanks for following along so far! Davy Wow, where is the year going? It's October alreadies! So what's the goal for this month? Well a lot more painting on canvas, and getting a few illustrations for Christmas sales completed. If you've been following the blog you'll know how much time has been spent in September trying to get Amazon to stop the copyright criminal rings selling my images through their marketplace - more on that tomorra! For today though, here's a fun pic of Wee Hamish the Scottish highland cow, who's already getting into the halloween spirit. Aw bless him, he looks like he's been running through a pumpkin patch. I've popped him up on a few t-shirts etc in my wee shops on zazzle and cafepress. He's even on baby bodysuits and tiny t-shirts which you can personalise to celebrate baby's first halloween! As always, thanks for using the links from my website. It means i'll get paid for my work rather than some criminal counterfeiting ring. Have a creative day and i'll see ye tomorra!
