My flatmate was asking me yesterday what my next painting was going to be. I couldn't nail it down to just one idea, so decided to sleep on it. Well, I awoke today and totally had it figured out and it's related to the subject of one of my little sketches from Glasgow's George Square last summer. Tune in tomorrow to see it start to take shape. In the meantime here's my good luck 'happy new painting day' dance! Have fun, be creative and speak soon!
Davy Todays wee doodle is a face from the back of my mind. He looks a little grumpy so i'm guessing is a bar guy at the end of the night saying "last orders, mate!", as he wants to get away home to his bed! Hope you're gearing up for a creative weekend!
Speak soon, Davy Today's doodle is a cute wee salty penguin...brrr! I gave myself a little time challenge of drawing him within 60 seconds to see how far I could get before he got too snow-covered! Hope you're having a creative day!
Davy Theresa May was looking a little glum, so I gave here a wee pair of deelyboppers to cheer her up.
Hope you're having a creative day! Speak soon, Davy I'm enjoying just doodling anything that comes into my head. Here's a wee thistle guy who wants a hug! Maybe i'll work on him some more and he'll pop up again!
Have a creative day! Davy A little sketchy doodle of the Duke Of Wellington Equestrian Statue in Glasgow. You can see my other Duke oil painting of the Duke here. Hope you're having a creative day!
Speak soon, Davy it's a strange thing, trying to draw a caricature of someone. I have to draw their face a few times to get to know them, all their little nooks and crannies.
This is my first attemot at Donald Trump. I'll do a few more sketches before i'll be content enough to start exaggerating certain features! Expect to see him cropping up over the next wee while! Have a creative day and i'll see ye tomorra! Davy A little smile for today's doodle.
I've been suffering from a summer cold for the last few days, and i think it's finally 'lifting' and if that's not a reason to smile, I don't know what is! The wee jolly face was done in 'Adobe Draw', which is free to download to your phone or iPad. It's fab for doodling away - and you can use your finger or a stylus to create a piece of art! The lettering was scribbled in 'procreate' app, so very simple to do. This little doodle is dedicated to a friend of mine who has just bought an iPad pro, but thinks she can't draw. My aim with this little drawing is to show her, and you, that doodling can be as simple as sketching a few lines. It's fun! Have a creative day and i'll see you tomorra! Davy Welcome To The Doodle Caboodle! Some of my art pieces take ages to complete - mainly due to drying times of the oil paints, and the amount of layers I work in. Don't get me wrong, I love the process...even if it does take months to finish a painting.
For my instant gratification however i'm always doodling. I use anything to doodle on - the backs of envelopes, scrap bits of paper, and also my ipad pro. There's a few different applications I use on the ipad pro, but my usual 'go to' is 'procreate app'. It's just so intuitive. However, there's a lot of other little apps out there to choose from, so in this new 'doodle caboodle' section i'll be trying out various ones, utilising their 'brushes', pens, etc, and coming up with a little drawing per day. I'll make a wee note of which ones i've used for each piece. It's not an in-depth thing, just a wee look to see what's out there. Have a creative day and check back daily to see what i've drawn! Davy . I'd always been a procrastinator. A 'last minute Larry' I was called. For example when I used to get up in the morning, which is usually about 6am, i'd have my protein shake then lie back on the couch scrolling through my facebook, twitter etc..then on to youtube to see what was happening on there - letting my protein shake 'digest', or so I'd tell myself. And then i'd start my workout...well, maybe after just one more youtube video...and then another. I knew I would have to find coping mechanisms though to get me to start my morning routine. The ones I found though - well, they might sound a bit droll...but they work for me.
For my workouts I will literally roll off the couch onto my yoga matt and start doing my stretches. As soon as that first stretch is done then 'click' i'm on my way. Stretches, abs, bends, pull ups, then onto my weights. It's the same as when i would sit down at the easel to paint. I could be there for ages just looking at the piece in front of me, and it's was only when I made that first brush stroke of the day that I got into the 'zone'. So now I daub a mark on the canvas straight away - doesn't matter where it lands - front, back or side - plus it can always be painted over. After that, time flies, brushes daub, tea is drunk, and before I realise, it's time for dinner. Love to know how other folks deal with procrastination, feel free to add your own strategies in the comments below. Have a creative day and speak soon, Davy |
